De Stichting Verbiest uit Leuven heeft een bezoek van een delegatie van Chinese bisschoppen georganiseerd, mede ter voorbereiding op een grotere conferentie die men volgend jaar rond deze tijd wil houden. Vier Chinese bisschoppen en een priester van een vijfde bisdom zijn enkele dagen te gast in België, Nederland en Frankrijk. 11-12 september waren zij in ons bisdom.

El Shaddai celebrated its 27^th anniversary on the 5^th of november in Vredeskerk (Our Lady Queen of Peace). For the first time after Covid everything looked "normal", like before the pandemic. Guests from abroad and from the Netherlands were present to join in the celebration. The Massreadings touched an important topic, especially for our times: What is the impact of (Lack of) money and wealth?

Zaterdagavond 16 juni was het heilig vormsel in de Engelse gemeenschap van de H. Vituskerk in Hilversum. Zeventien jongeren ontvingen dit Sacrament van de heilige Geest, een achttiende jongere en een catecheet moesten ervaren dat het Corona-virus niet weg is...

Zaterdag 6 november vierde El Shaddai chapter Amsterdam de 26e verjaardag. De Mis was op het feest van de eerste geloofsverkondigers van onze streken. Dat kwam mooi uit, want op de Filippijnen is dit jaar 500 jaar evangelisatie herdacht. Dat wordt op de Filippijnen herdacht met een heilig jaar. De ambassadeur in Nederland stond daarbij stil in een toespraak na afloop van de viering.

Zaterdag 22 mei vond in de kapel van de Vrouwe van alle Volkeren de jaarlijkse gebedsdag plaats. Omdat het ook in andere landen nog niet mogelijk is fysiek bij elkaar te komen, werd de gebedsdag deels uitgezonden via katholieke TV stations en geheel via live-stream. Een team van vertalers was actief om de gelovigen in het Italiaans, Spaans, Frans, Slowaaks, Pools, Duits en Italiaans van dienst te zijn.

Zondag 10 januari, feest van de Doop van de Heer, was ik in de parochie van de Blessed Trinity waar ik de beide parochiemissen vierde en het nieuwe kerkbestuur ontmoette. Ook hier waren natuurlijk maar dertig mensen per Mis en de parochie heeft veel moeite om catechetische activiteiten voort te zetten. In beide Eucharistievieringen was er prachtige zang door twee cantores/solisten met muzikale begeleiding.

On the Solemnity of the most holy Trinity I celebrated an English Mass for El Shaddai community. It was their last celebration in the cathedral church, where they moved to so that they could have live streamed Masses. Now they are moving back to Amsterdam. At the beginning of the homily I expressed my gratitude for the many good wishes conveyed at the occasion of my start as a bishop of the diocese of Haarlem-Amsterdam.

The gospel of the 6th Sunday of Easter is about love and the commandments of the Lord. In the cathedral church I celebrated holy Mass in English, prepared by El Shaddai community. Fr. Ruben Torres, spiritual leader of the community concelebrated.

On sunday the 3^rd of May we had an English live-stream Mass from our cathedral church, prepared by El Shaddai community (Amsterdam chapter). One of the seminarians, Juan Ignacio, told us how the Lord accompanied him and called him to the priesthood.

On the sollemnity of Christ the King, at the 24th of november, I visited the 'Couples for Christ' community and administerd holy confirmation to eight candidates, all around the age of fifteen, sixteen, except one.

El Shaddai is an international catholic charismatic community, widespread in the world and present in our diocese in Amsterdam and Amstelveen. The annual celebration in Amsterdam is every year a beautiful day of prayer, reflection, meeting each other and of course the Eucharistic celebration. This year the 24th anniversary was celebrated and we prepare for the silver jubilee next year on the 22d of november.

Every year the charismatic catholic El Shaddai community of Amsterdam celebrates its anniversary with a beautiful celebration in Vredeskerk, where they have their normal sunday-celebrations as well. I was there to celebrate Holy Mass with them and share in the joy that our catholic faith brings to our hearts.

Friday evening I visited the Blessed Trinity parish in Amsterdam to administer the sacrament of Confirmation to the candidates there, coming from different backgrounds and places, but members of the English speaking parish of the Blessed Trinity.

On the 4^th of november El Shaddai chapter Amsterdam celebrated its 22^nd anniversary with a day of prayer, reflection, life testimonies and inspirational talks. Representatives of El Shaddai Chapters from different countries were present as well as the international coordinator, sis. Mae Hartberg. The ambassador of the Philippines gave a message.

On saturday 17 June I celebrated H. Mass with first holy communion of four children and an adult person and holy confirmation of 18 candidates. It was a nice celebration, well prepared by the priest, Fr. Ruben Quisver, the sisters, schoolteacher and catechists.

On Sunday the 26th of february a new church was dedicated with sollemn rite in the South East of Amsterdam. All Saints’ quasi parish is a vibrant African Roman Catholic community and showed itself to be so at this beautiful occasion.

On the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit was pouring out His gifts in Amsterdam as well. 22 candidates of All Saints parish received the sacrament of Confirmation during a joyful celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

We all are emotional, we have our personal feelings about others, about events that happened, things we experience. Sometimes just a little remark is sufficient for us to be touched deeply.

In Rome werd op de avond voor Barm­har­tig­heids­zondag het komende buiten­gewoon Heilig Jaar van de Barm­har­tig­heid offi­cieel aange­kondigd door paus Franciscus. In het bisdom Haarlem-Amsterdam werden in Heiloo en in Nieuw-Vennep speciale vieringen gehouden voor Barm­har­tig­heids­zondag, in Heiloo met mgr. Jozef Punt, in Nieuw-Vennep was ik aanwezig.

Dat de Filippijnse katholieke gemeenschap in ons bisdom een zeer levende kerk is, mocht ik deze Pinksterzondag weer ervaren. Op zondagmiddag werd in Hoofddorp, in de Sint Johannes de Doperkerk, niet alleen de nederdaling van de heilige Geest over de apostelen gevierd, maar ook de komst van Gods Geest over 22 vormelingen en de aanstelling van Marcel van Lochem tot buitengewoon bedienaar van de heilige communie.

In Cebu op de Filippijnen was het groot feest op de derde zondag van het jaar, 19 januari. Miljoenen vierden daar het feest van de Santo Niño. Ook in Nederland deden de Filippino's mee.

Op de derde zondag van de Advent was ik voor de heilige Eucharistie bij de All Saints om het decreet van de Bisschop voor te lezen waarmee deze Engelstalige gemeenschap werd opgericht als “quasi-parochie”, missie voor de west-afrikaanse gemeenschap in ons bisdom. Het decreet werd met vreugde ontvangen, want deze (quasi-) parochie heeft daarmee de mogelijkheid gekregen om een eigen kerkgebouw te kopen.

In de Vredeskerk in Amsterdam (O.L. Vrouw, Koningin van de vrede) vierde de Nederlands-Filippijnse gemeenschap El Shaddai haar meerderjarigheid met een dag van ontmoeting en gebed onder het motto: “Vandaag is dit huis heil ten deel gevallen” (Lc. 19,9).

Beloken Pasen is sinds het jaar 2000 zondag van de barm­hartig­heid en op vele plaatsen komen gelovigen bijeen om deze dag bijzonder te vieren, zich Gods barm­hartig­heid meer en dieper bewust te worden en die af te smeken voor Kerk en wereld en voor alle persoon­lijke en gezins-intenties.
